Lord Hardinge was the Viceroy of the then undivided India. The bridge was named Hardinge's Bridge after him. The construction of the bridge cost 3 crore 51 lakh 32 thousand 1 hundred 84 rupees. The length of the bridge is 5,600 feet. The bridge has 15 spans. Span No. 12 was damaged when a bomb was dropped on the bridge during the war of liberation in 1971. Which were later repaired. Hardinge Bridge is located on the river Padmanabha in the Ishwardi Bheramara border.
Only trains pass through the bridge. Bangladesh Railway is responsible for the maintenance and safety of the bridge. 2015 marks the centenary of the construction of the Hardinge Bridge.
